My passion lies in the creative lives of artists, and a love for art, textiles, travel, and food. Over the past 45 years, I have studied and researched world textiles, fine art, and the cultural arts of peoples around the world; including in Tibet, India, China, Peru, Mexico, and the American Southwest. In my travels, local foods have always inspired me and warmed my belly and inspired my heart.

Calendars celebrate humanity and the places and things people love. In these art calendars I wish to share with you the pairing of Fine Art and Good Food. Celebrating the rich culture and varied places we call HOME here in southern BC, from the Kootenays to the Boundary. I produce annual art calendars highlighting local artists and local food folks – popular chefs, cafes, and food producers. These calendars include an inserted Recipe Folio, THE ARTFUL KITCHEN, to further inspire you each month.

These unique calendars have graced kitchens, and work spaces since 2013. I am continuing the tradition of celebrating the great work of both local artists, and the wonderful tasty recipes from our local areas.

Maggie Tchir is a contemporary textile-based artist and arts advocate. She has maintained an arts practice for 40 plus years and has worked in the arts and culture sector as an artist, independent curator, educator, administrator, and scholar. She attended UBC, the University of Eastern Washington, and the Banff Centre, among other schools and mentorships.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Tchir has lived her adult life in Grand Forks and in the Nelson area. Teaching for 20 years in the textile studio at the Kootenay School of the Arts (1993 – 2013), she then became the Executive Director of the Langham Cultural Society in Kaslo. She also owned an independent bookstore in the early 90’s and was an importer of hand-made Tibetan rugs in the 80’s. Her peers and friends know her as a consummate professional, a life-learner, always willing to engage new challenges, and to ‘go-the-extra-mile’ with good humour!
